Republicans begin impeachment inquiry hearings into President Biden

House Oversight and Accountability Committee Chairman James Comer, R-Ky., on Thursday said the committee would review evidence that President Joe Biden “abused his public office for his family's financial gain.” Republicans have been investigating Biden since he was vice president. The committee hosted a panel of guests Thursday that included former Assistant Attorney General Eileen O’Connor and law professors.

What evidence did the committee provide? Comer discussed in his opening statement what Republicans considered to be a money trail between the president and his son’s business dealings, including a wire transfer document that lists the address of Joe Biden’s Delaware home. An attorney for Hunter Biden said the money was a loan and it was Hunter’s only fixed address at the time. Committee Democrats, like Ranking Committee Member Jamie Raskin, D-Md., said Republicans did not possess a “smoking gun or even a dripping water pistol” backing up claims of wrongdoing on the part of Joe Biden.
