GOP Sen. Tim Scott announces White House bid

South Carolina Senator Tim Scott on Monday formally announced his campaign for president in 2024. Scott emphasized “freedom and hope and opportunity” in his campaign, speaking at his alma mater Charleston Southern University. The senator has publicly professed Christian faith and said he would support federal legislation protecting unborn children. Other major Republican candidates include former President Donald Trump, former South Carolina Gov. Nikki Haley, and former Arkansas Gov. Asa Hutchinson.

Are any other Republican contenders going to enter the race? Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis has not officially declared his candidacy, but he is expected to do so this week. Miami’s Republican Mayor Francis Suarez said on Sunday he has yet to decide on a presidential run.
