Brad Raffensperger wins Georgia secretary of state

Republican incumbent Brad Raffensperger secured nearly 54 percent of the votes, according to unofficial results from the Georgia government. He beat challengers Democrat Bee Nguyen and Libertarian Ted Metz. The Georgia House and Senate also remained Republican with just a few more races to be called by The Associated Press.

Who is Raffensperger? Raffensperger is a former engineer who campaigned for secure elections and integrity. He was first elected in 2019. In 2020, he resisted former President Donald Trump’s request to “find” additional votes in his favor. He testified before the House committee investigating the Jan. 6 riot that he had checked every allegation. In 2021, he defended a new state Senate bill that added an ID requirement to absentee voting.
