President Biden signs stopgap spending bill
President Joe Biden on Friday signed a continuing resolution to keep the lights on and doors open in some government offices through the beginning of March. The resolution extends funding for some government offices until March 1 and others until March 8. It passed the Senate 77-18 and the House 314-108. The bill largely maintains current federal spending levels.
What plans are in place for a long-term spending bill? House Speaker Mike Johnson, R-La., and Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer, D-N.Y., had agreed on a long-term spending arrangement. Some Republicans have opposed the agreement, saying it doesn’t cut enough government spending. The stopgap spending resolution Biden signed Friday keeps government offices open as Congress debates how to fund the government long-term.
