Police: Tulsa shooter targeted doctor
Tulsa Police Chief Wendell Franklin said officers arrived at the Natalie Building of the St. Francis Hospital within three minutes of receiving 911 calls of an active shooter there on Wednesday. Two minutes later, the suspect, whom authorities identified as Michael Louis of Muskogee, was found dead from a self-inflicted gunshot wound in a second-floor office, according to Franklin. Police found a letter on the suspect in which he allegedly wrote that he wanted to kill Dr. Preston Phillips, who had performed back surgery on him earlier in the month. Louis said he was still in pain and follow-up treatment hadn’t worked. Phillips was found dead in an exam room.
Who were the other victims? Receptionist Amanda Glenn, physician Stephanie Husen, and patient William Love were also killed. No other injuries have been reported. Franklin said Love held a door closed to allow others to escape through a second door as the shooter approached. The police chief also reported that Louis legally bought a semi-automatic handgun on May 29 from a local pawn shop and an AR-style rifle from a gun store on Wednesday. Authorities also investigated a related bomb threat at a home in nearby Muskogee but have not confirmed whether this was the suspect’s address.
