Police release warrant in Andrew Brown case

Demonstrators have turned out for days in Elizabeth City, N.C., to protest a fatal police shooting that occurred Wednesday. Officials declared a state of emergency on Monday ahead of family members viewing body camera footage of the death of Andrew Brown Jr., age 42. A search warrant revealed county deputies went to Brown’s home after they recorded an informant buying cocaine and methamphetamine from him. When they showed up to conduct the search, multiple deputies shot at him as tried to get away in his car, an eyewitness said.

What did the body camera show? Attorney Chantel Cherry-Lassiter watched the footage with Brown’s family on Monday and said it showed he was shot in the back of the head while his hands were on the steering wheel. North Carolina law requires a judge’s approval to release the video publicly, something Pasquotank County Sheriff Tommy Wooten II said he would request.
