Police, protesters violently clash outside Democratic National Committee headquarters
Police on Wednesday night evacuated Democratic lawmakers from the DNC headquarters in Washington as the demonstration turned violent. Officers tried to hold back about 150 people who U.S. Capitol Police say were “illegally and violently demonstrating” while calling for a ceasefire in the war between Israel and Hamas. Protesters blamed the police for the violence. Six officers were treated for injuries, and police arrested at least one person. During the incident, police rushed Democratic lawmakers into the basement for safety, said Rep. Brad Sherman, D-Calif. The protest came one day after a massive, peaceful rally of pro-Israel demonstrators at the National Mall.
What other protests are happening around the world? About 100 family members of Israeli citizens being held hostage by Hamas terrorists began a five-day march on Tuesday from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem. Participants are demanding the government do more to secure the release of about 240 people who were kidnapped last month.
