Police update investigation of Michael Tait allegations

Accusations of sexual assault against former DC Talk singer Michael Tait did not appear to be prosecutable within the jurisdiction of the Brentwood, Tenn., police department, a spokesperson for the department told WORLD Wednesday. All seven of the alleged cases either fell outside the Tennessee statute of limitations or were not in the local department’s jurisdiction, the spokesman said. In June 2025, Tait wrote a social media post admitting to instances of sexually touching men without their consent, along with alcohol and drug abuse. He sang for decades in Christian bands such as DC Talk and Newsboys.

Brentwood Police last year told the Tennessean they had begun a preliminary investigation into accusations against Tait. He lived in the town, a Nashville suburb, but has since moved, according to a recent story by The Roys Report, which broke news of the allegations last year.

The police update comes after a detailed review of officer interviews with each person who brought up the claims, the police department said. The individuals had been informed that prosecution was unlikely to proceed, according to the department. The local district attorney’s office was also reviewing police findings to confirm whether any of the incidents could be grounds for prosecution, according to police.
