Pentagon identifies 3 U.S. soldiers killed in Iran war
The U.S. Department of War released the identities of three servicemembers killed in action amid the ongoing war with Iran. Two died in an Iranian drone attack in Jordan that began on Friday and the third died during a controlled detonation of an Iranian drone on Sunday, according to the Pentagon.
What do we know about them? The military identified Sunday’s victim as 30-year-old Sgt. Michael Emmanuel Swinton. From Fayetteville, N.C., Swinton has a young daughter with wife Mia Gonzalez-Swinton. Swinton will receive a Bronze Star, Purple Heart, and Combat Action Badge, and be posthumously promoted to staff sergeant, the military said in a statement.
The Pentagon on Monday identified the two other U.S. casualties as Pvt. Isabella Gonzales of Carrollton, Texas, and First Lt. Tyler James Feehan of Ewa Beach, Hawaii. Gonzales, 19, and a recent high school graduate, died on Friday, and Freehan, 25, died on Saturday. Both were killed in action.
Private Gonzales is presently the youngest publicly identified service member to have died in action during the conflict. The Army announced that Lieutenant Feehan will also receive the Bronze Star, Purple Heart, and Combat Action Badge, and be posthumously promoted to captain.
Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth posted on social media honoring the fallen soldiers and adding that their sacrifice only strengthens the United State’s resolve.
Both Swinton and Feehan served out of Fort Bragg, North Carolina. Private Gonzales served out of Ansbach, Germany.
