The Presbyterian Church in America started its 52nd annual General Assembly meeting on Monday in Chattanooga, Tenn. The five-day event will consist of seminars from various speakers and worship services, along with programming for families and women, according to the 2025 information book. Many recognize the PCA as the largest conservative Reformed denomination in the country, with just over 1,600 churches with 400,000 members, according to 2024 church data.
Who attends the General Assembly? PCA ministers, called teaching elders, and lay leaders, called ruling elders, meet annually for the General Assembly, which is recognized as the highest body of the PCA government. Official attendees, called commissioners, vote on business on behalf of their congregation and presbytery, or a regional church government body consisting of local elders. Commissioners meet to discuss ministry business, including possible amendments to the PCA’s church policy laid out in the Book of Church Order.
