Passengers still stranded after Atlanta airport power outage

Thousands of people remain stranded after Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport lost power Sunday, grounding more than 1,000 flights. Electricity went out around 1 p.m. due to a fire at an underground power facility, according to Georgia Power. Electrical service was restored and lines were long but moving Monday morning as passengers boarded planes, attempted to reschedule flights, and picked up baggage. Delta Air Lines, with its largest hub in Atlanta, offered passengers a free one-time change to their flights. It could take most of the week for some passengers to get where they are going because flights tend to be heavily booked during the Christmas holiday season. When Atlanta, the world’s busiest airport, grounded flights for most of one day last spring, it took Delta five days—and about 4,000 canceled flights—before it fully recovered.
