Parade crash suspect had long rap sheet
Police in Waukesha, Wis., said the man who drove his speeding SUV into a Christmas parade on Sunday was leaving the scene of a domestic dispute. Darrell Brooks Jr., 39, has been charged with crimes 16 times since 1999 and had two outstanding cases against him. Police Chief Daniel Thompson said Brooks will face five charges of intentional homicide in the parade disaster.
How are the victims? Officials said four women ages 52 to 79 and one 81-year-old man died after the SUV struck them. Another 48 people were injured, including two children who were in critical condition as of Monday night. Three of the women who died belonged to the Milwaukee Dancing Grannies troupe. “Our group was doing what they loved, performing in front of crowds in a parade,” the troupe said in a statement Monday morning. “Putting smiles on faces of all ages, filling them with joy and happiness.”
