Over 40 pro-Palestinian protesters arrested in U.S. Senate building
Dozens of pro-Palestinian demonstrators entered the Hart Senate Office Building on Tuesday to protest the United States sending weapons to Israel for its war against the terrorist group Hamas in Gaza. Footage showed dozens of protesters pushing past Capitol police into the building lobby chanting “Free Palestine” and “No more money for Israel’s crimes.” Authorities arrested 44 protesters inside the office building for illegal protest, U.S. Capitol Police told WORLD Tuesday evening. The public information officer added that two protesters were also charged with assaulting a police officer, but did not elaborate on the alleged assaults.
Why did they choose to protest at Senate offices? Senators are slated to vote later this week on a bill to stop a previously approved $20 billion weapons deal with Israel. Sen. Bernie Sanders, I-Vt., brought the bill to block the deal in September and planned to call a vote later this week.
