Officials find bodies of three missing in Iowa apartment collapse

Authorities in Davenport, Iowa, said every resident of an apartment building that collapsed May 28 was accounted for Monday. Search crews recovered the remains of Branden Colvin Sr., 42, on Saturday, one day after officials ended the search for survivors. Workers found the body of Ryan Hitchcock, 51, on Sunday, and Daniel Prien, 60, on Monday. During the rescue effort, local fire officials said the apartment building was unstable and at risk of collapsing.

Will anyone be held accountable? Dayna Feuerbach, a building resident, filed a lawsuit Monday against the building owner, the city of Davenport, and engineers and contractors who worked on the building. The lawsuit claims officials knew the structure was unstable but failed to warn residents. According to documents released by the city, city officials and the building owner were cautioned for months that parts of the structure were at risk of crumbling.
