NYC mayor addresses FBI investigation of his campaign
New York City Mayor Eric Adams on Tuesday called a press conference at City Hall to address an ongoing FBI investigation into his 2021 campaign. Authorities have been examining whether his campaign conspired with the Turkish government to receive illegal campaign contributions, according to a search warrant obtained by The New York Times. Adams said Tuesday that he would not step down as mayor. Some of his staff members said they would not impede an ongoing investigation with public comments. Adams said he always tells his staff to follow the law and that his donors still support him.
What is this investigation about, exactly? On Nov. 6, the FBI executed a search warrant at the home of Brianna Suggs, Adams’ campaign fundraising chief. On Nov. 10, FBI agents stopped Adams and took his electronic devices. Neither Suggs nor Adams have been formally accused of wrongdoing.
