Officials closed out a nearly week-long manhunt Tuesday after recovering two inmates who escaped from a detention center last week, according to the FBI. Michael Lewis Miles Jr. and Lishawn Knott, whom the FBI described as armed and dangerous, were arrested at a home in Asheville, N.C., on Tuesday. The men were recaptured without incident over 200 miles west of the Vance County Detention Center, from where they were being held on state drug trafficking and gun-related charges.

How did they travel that far? The FBI reported that the inmates’ escape and subsequent movements remained under investigation. Leads generated from the joint state, local, and federal search led the team to Buncombe County, where the men were arrested, the FBI said.

How did they escape? Officials have not given any further details on how the escape occurred, but did confirm that it happened midday on June 3. The pair knew each other before their latest arrests, according to a previous statement from the Vance County Sheriff’s Office.
