No injuries after 35-car train derailment in Texas

Nearly three dozen Union Pacific train cars derailed Tuesday afternoon outside the north central Texas town of Gordon in Palo Pinto County, according to public officials. Footage showed freight cars piled atop one another with a few small grass fires around the outskirts of the scene. Palo Pinto County emergency services reported no injuries from the pileup.

What were the cars carrying? The train was carrying fuel and hydrochloric acid, according to a report by local outlet KDFW, but officials said no contents have leaked from the cars. The scene is being treated as a hazmat situation, but no evacuation advisories have been issued, emergency officials added. The scene will continue to be active for the next few days as crews use heavy machinery to remove the cars, officials added.
