Nearly 100 migrants die near Libya as boat capsizes

At least 90 migrants drowned off Libya’s coast Friday after a smuggler’s boat capsized. International Organization for Migration spokeswoman Olivia Headon said 10 bodies washed ashore near the Libyan town of Zuwara. At least three migrants survived the accident. “We are told that two survivors swam to the shore, and one person was rescued by a fishing boat,” Headon said. Eight of the migrants likely came from Pakistan and two others came from Libya. Headon said Pakistani nationals are increasingly among the number of migrants attempting to cross the Mediterranean to Italy and Europe via Libya. Some 6,624 people have crossed the Mediterranean from Libya since January.
