Murder suspect caught nine days after lockup escape
Pennsylvania State Police said Warren County Prison escapee Michael Burham would be locked up in a different facility after his arraignment Saturday night for charges related to his escape. Burham was caught after a couple in the county found Burham camping on their property and recognized his picture from the news, said state police Lt. Col. George Bivens. Police pursued Burham into the woods with “personnel on the ground, aviation assets, [and] canines” from agencies including the FBI, U.S. Customs and Border Protection, and the New York State Police, Bivens said. Burham faced burglary and kidnapping charges and was a suspect in a murder investigation when he escaped on July 6. Police said Burham used bedsheets to flee out a window of the prison’s gym.
What's next for Burham? Bivens described Burham’s physical condition after a week on the run as “tired and worn out.” Bivens also said police will continue investigating whether Burham had outside help after finding supplies at many of the self-taught survivalist’s campsites.
