More Texas schools push back on Title IX expansion

Argyle Independent School District on Monday approved a resolution saying new Biden administration regulations pose safety risks to girls and women. The district, located about 40 miles northwest of Dallas, is the latest in a string of Texas schools that have challenged the administration’s attempt to expand Title IX protections to include males who identify as females. Carroll Independent School District in June requested an injunction against the Department of Education’s changes.

Have judges in the state ruled on the issue? Last week, a federal district judge ruled in favor of Carroll ISD, issuing a temporary injunction to prevent the changes from taking effect in Texas. U.S. District Judge Reed O’Connor said the changes would undermine years of progress for women and girls. U.S. District Judge Matthew Kacsmaryk last week also granted a temporary injunction against the changes, saying they would allow men into women’s spaces. His ruling came after Texas and two professors from the University of Texas at Austin sued the U.S. Department of Education in April. West Virginia and Idaho last week filed separate petitions with the U.S. Supreme Court asking justices to review state laws to protect women and girls from having to compete with male athletes.
