Monster truck accident kills 3, hurts 37 in Colombia
At least three people died and 37 were injured Sunday when a monster truck driver lost control during an auto show in Popayán, western Colombia. Colombian newspaper El Espectador reported that the deceased were a woman and two children. Both public and private first responders and healthcare workers provided care for the injured, according to the governor of Cauca state.
The truck crashed through barriers before hitting a power pole, temporarily cutting off electricity for parts of the area, according to El Espectador. It was unclear how the driver lost control. The driver was reportedly Sonia Segura, one of the only well-known female Latin American monster truck drivers, who had roughly 15 years of experience, according to the outlet.
A local media source claimed the auto show lacked safety measures and called for an investigation into the officials and organizers behind the event.
