Millions across U.S. Northeast get flood warnings as rain continues
Vermont officials said Monday that several dams across the state were in danger of overflowing after days of heavy rainfall. Authorities closed the downtown area of the state capital of Montpelier on Tuesday due to flooding, and President Joe Biden declared a state of emergency for Vermont. The state has received more than nine inches of rain since Sunday. Flooding in parts of the state has surpassed levels last experienced during Tropical Storm Irene in 2011, said Governor Phil Scott.
Have other states also experienced flooding? New York on Monday reported flash floods across the state, and at least one person died as she tried to leave her home. Six counties in New York on Tuesday were under a state of emergency. The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers on Monday urged some communities in New Hampshire to evacuate. Over three million people were under flood alerts on Tuesday.
