Midday Roundup: Fox News reporter targeted by Justice Department leak probe

Another target. The Washington Post reported this morning that the Justice Department targeted another journalist in response to fears about a possible intelligence leak. Officials seized the personal emails of Fox News reporter James Rosen and tracked his visits to the State Department in an attempt to prove he met with a security advisor to obtain secret material. According to the WaPo story, "The case of Stephen Jin-Woo Kim, the government adviser, and James Rosen, the chief Washington correspondent for Fox News, bears striking similarities to a sweeping leaks investigation disclosed last week in which federal investigators obtained records over two months of more than 20 telephone lines assigned to the Associated Press."

Twister toll. A tornado that roared through Shawnee, Okla., on Sunday night killed two and left about 20 injured after destroying a mobile home park in its path. Both men who died were in their 70s. "You can see where there's absolutely nothing, then there are places where you have mobile home frames on top of each other, debris piled up," Pottawatomie County Sheriff Mike Booth said after surviving damage. "It looks like there's been heavy equipment in there on a demolition tour." More storms are expected from Minnesota to Texas later today.

Jackpot. One Florida resident holds the winning ticket to the highest Powerball lottery jackpot in history. But so far, the winner hasn't come forward. The ticket was purchased at a Publix supermarket in Zephyrhills, Fla., about 30 miles northeast of downtown Tampa. The winner will have up to two months to claim the estimated $590.5 million jackpot. Because the ticket was sold in Florida, the winner cannot remain anonymous. Under state law, the winner's name and city of residence must be made available to anyone who asks. Lottery Spokesman David Bishop told Fox News he's not surprised no one's claimed the prize yet. Winners usually contact an attorney or accountant before picking up their check. This one's probably also looking for a new place to live, maybe a private Bahamian island.

Blog this. In the latest deal to rock the tech world, Yahoo announced today it is purchasing popular blogging site Tumblr for $1.1 billion. On her own Tumblr blog, Yahoo CEO Marissa Mayer promised "not to screw it up." Despite her assurances, the need for them probably doesn't give Tumblr fans much hope for their favorite social media site. The deal will boost Yahoo's audience by 50 percent to more than 1 billion monthly visitors. Yahoo shares rose 0.7 percent to about $26.70 shortly after the announcement.
