Men charged with deadly conduct for wounding baseball coach

The Waller County sheriff’s office in Hempstead, Texas said Wednesday that three men were in custody after being charged for their roles in a shooting that wounded one person on a baseball field. Each of the suspects faces a count of deadly conduct, a felony offense, for firing guns in a way that threatened lives, according to the sheriff’s office. Bail bonds for the men were set at $100,000 each. They are presumed innocent until proven guilty in court.

The men were identified as Mahmood Abdelsalam Rababah, Ahmad Mawed, and Mustafa Mohammad Matalgah, all in their twenties, according to the sheriff’s office. They allegedly fired shots in a pasture that peppered a nearby baseball park where a youth event was taking place, in Katy, Texas. A bullet struck one adult in the upper arm, according to the sheriff's office. He was transported to a hospital and later released for recovery.

The wounded man, who was a baseball coach, was struck while saying a pregame prayer on the field, according to KHOU-TV. Though the spray of shots sent parents and players ducking and running for cover, no one else was hurt, according to the television station.
