Pastor T.D. Jakes suffers health problem during worship
The Potter’s House Senior Pastor Bishop T.D. Jakes received medical attention for a slight health episode after delivering an hour-long message, according to a statement from the Dallas-area megachurch. He was in stable condition and under medical care on Sunday, the church said.
Livestream footage showed the 67-year-old pastor sitting on a stool in prayer when he began to slur his words, shake, and drop the microphone in his hand. Shouts from congregants can be heard in the background as other church leaders surround Jakes.
What happened? Jakes appeared to suffer a seizure but the church gave no further detail on the nature of the health incident, only that Jakes is stable. The pastor’s daughter, Sarah Jakes Roberts, posted a video further confirming that her father was recovering his strength. He’s so strong that it’s been hard to make him rest, joked her husband, Touré Roberts.
The Potter’s House is a non-denominational megachurch with over 30,000 members, according to its website. Jakes has been criticized in some evangelical circles for his shifting teachings on the Trinity. Critics have also accused him of preaching a prosperity gospel.
