McCarthy reaffirms bipartisan U.S. support for Israel

Republican House Speaker Kevin McCarthy on Monday told the Israeli parliament that the United States would fund security assistance for Israel as long as he is Speaker of the House. President Joe Biden has yet to invite Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to the White House. McCarthy promised to invite Netanyahu to speak to Congress if Biden doesn’t invite him to celebrate the 75th anniversary of Israel’s independence.

Where does Netanyahu stand with Biden? Biden has voiced opposition to Netanyahu’s plan to overhaul the Israeli judiciary. He said Netanyahu should walk back the plan, and Netanyahu delayed it after months of protests. Netanyahu’s position has been that the judiciary has too much power compared to elected representatives.
