Massachusetts GOP chooses Trump-endorsed governor candidate
Massachusetts Republican gubernatorial candidate Geoff Diehl on Tuesday won the primary race against businessman Chris Doughty. Diehl, who received an endorsement from former President Donald Trump, contends that the 2020 presidential election was improperly won by President Joe Biden. His 55.7 percent of the vote beat the 44.3 percent of ballots cast for Doughty. Diehl previously ran as a Massachusetts candidate in 2018, when he lost to Senator Elizabeth Warren by about 24 percent of the vote.
What will Massachusetts voters be facing in November? Diehl will run against Democratic primary nominee Maura Healey. Healey, who would be the state’s first openly lesbian governor, has built her campaign on things like education, housing, and climate change. Diehl, who also plans to address housing shortages and education, has largely focused on economic development, energy, and fiscal discipline.
