Maryland school shooting victim dies

Jaelynn Willey, the 16-year-old target of Tuesday’s school shooting in Maryland, died late Thursday after her family decided to take her off life support. “On Tuesday … our lives changed completely and totally forever,” her mother, Melissa Willey, told reporters Thursday night. “My daughter was hurt by a boy who shot her in the head and took everything from our lives.” Jaelynn “had no life left in her,” her mother added. Austin Rollins, 17, shot Willey at Great Mills High School in St. Mary’s County, where they were both students. The pair had been in a relationship that recently ended. Investigators described Rollins as “a lovesick teen.” They still have not said whether Rollins killed himself or died from a bullet fired by the school resource officer who confronted him. Another teen wounded in the incident, 14-year-old Desmond Barnes, left the hospital Wednesday.
