An 8-week-old unborn baby died after the baby’s father allegedly spiked her mother’s drink with an abortion pill cocktail, according to a lawsuit filed this week in a Texas federal court. The father was a U.S. Marine named Christopher Cooprider, stationed in Corpus Christi, Texas, according to court documents. The mother, Liana Davis, sued Cooprider seeking damages for the baby’s wrongful death, along with any other penalties the court deemed appropriate.
Cooprider violated Texas law mandating informed consent for abortions, according to the lawsuit. He also broke state laws requiring abortion drugs to be provided by licensed physicians and prohibiting abortion except in rare circumstances, according to court documents. Davis also sued an Austrian company, Aid Access, and its founder for selling Cooprider the drugs.
What’s the background of the case? Davis became pregnant with Cooprider’s child in early 2025. She intended to give birth, but he wanted her to abort the baby, according to court documents. He eventually bought abortion-inducing drugs from Aid Access. Cooprider frequently brought the drugs to Davis’ residence and pressured her to take them, according to court documents. When she remained determined to give birth to the baby, he allegedly spiked her hot chocolate drink with a cocktail of the drugs, Davis’ lawsuit said. As a result of taking the drugs, Davis hemorrhaged, according to court documents. Davis eventually received care at the local emergency room, but her 8-week-old unborn child died.
