Magnitude 4.4 earthquake hits Los Angeles
The earthquake struck just after noon local time, according to the U.S. Geological Survey on Monday. The earthquake struck nearly 7 miles below ground and had a radius of several miles, according to the USGS. Many observers reported only weak to moderate tremors, the agency said.
How much damage did this cost? The Geological Survey estimated that there would be little to no damage from the earthquake. Buildings in the greater Los Angeles area are highly resistant to earthquakes, the agency said. Even so, some vulnerable structures do still exist in the area. The Los Angeles Fire Department was conducting a routine, post-earthquake survey of the city to assess for any damages, Mayor Karen Bass said.
