Louisiana elects GOP governor
Louisiana Attorney General Jeff Landry won the state’s “jungle primary” for governor on Saturday. He will take office in January, replacing Gov. John Bel Edwards, who is leaving office due to term limits. Landry won with an endorsement from former President Donald Trump. The governor-elect supports a state law protecting babies from nearly all abortions. He also backs a law protecting children from medical attempts to change their sex characteristics.
What is a jungle primary? All candidates for office run against each other regardless of party, and voters may vote for any one of them. If no candidate wins a majority of votes, the top two candidates face each other in a runoff election.
