Leaders make last speeches before elections

On Monday, President Joe Biden visited Maryland and former President Trump visited Ohio to make their final appeals to voters. As of Sunday, 41 million ballots had already been cast. Biden was in New York on Sunday campaigning for governor Kathy Hochul while Trump held a rally in Miami for Florida Sen. Marco Rubio. Vice President Kamala Harris has been campaigning for mostly women candidates and will spend Monday in California at a pro-abortion rally. Former Vice President Mike Pence spent the week in North Carolina and then at a campaign event for Republican Michigan House candidate Tom Barrett.

What states are being focused on? Just before Election Day, Biden stuck to Democratic strongholds, spending the weekend in California and Illinois. While some Republicans pushed into those same strongholds, Trump spent the weekend in Miami. Some of the most closely watched elections are Arizona, Pennsylvania, Georgia, Nevada, and Wisconsin. Historically, nearly every president’s first midterm election has resulted in significant wins by the opposing party.
