Lawsuit accuses New York City mayor of decades-old sexual assault
A plaintiff on Monday filed a civil lawsuit, viewed by WORLD, alleging Eric Adams sexually assaulted her in 1993 while they both worked for the New York Police Department. The lawsuit also names the City of New York and the New York Police Department’s Transit Bureau as defendants. WORLD is not naming the plaintiff at this time.
Wouldn't the alleged actions in 1993 have fallen outside the statute of limitations? The plaintiff filed her lawsuit under New York’s Adult Survivors Act. The law allowed individuals above the age of 18 who were victims of a sexual assault incident to sue for charges that would have otherwise fallen outside the statute of limitations. Under the act, plaintiffs had to sue within a one-year "lookback window" from November 24, 2022, until November 24, 2023.
What does Adams have to say about this? He said in a press conference Tuesday, “This did not happen. It did not happen. I don't recall ever meeting this person.” Adams had previously received a summons about the allegations in November. He also denied the claims at that time.
