LA-area wildfire destroys 132 buildings
Firefighters had managed to contain 5% of a wildfire raging near Los Angeles as of Wednesday evening, according to state and county firefighting agencies. The wildfire, which was roughly 14,200 acres as of Wednesday morning grew to roughly 20,000 acres throughout the rest of the day. The fire has fed on rocky slopes with dry vegetation that provide easy fuel and make it hard for firefighters to contain the blaze, the California government said.
Are there any casualties yet from the fire? One firefighter and five civilians have suffered injuries, according to official numbers. Damage inspectors found that 132 buildings were destroyed and 88 other buildings were damaged, authorities said in a press conference Thursday night.
The wildfire was a threat to more than 11,000 other structures. Nearly two dozen roads were closed and a dozen local zones were ordered to evacuate.
Do authorities know what started the fire? No, but officials have determined that the fire started on Wednesday.
