Uncontained wildfire rages near LA
Authorities urged residents of Ventura County to evacuate as the nearly 14,200-acre fire raged completely out of control on Thursday, according to the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection. Firefighters had not yet managed to even partially contain the fire as of early Thursday morning, CAL FIRE said. California Gov. Gavin Newsom on Wednesday said he’d secured federal funds for the response to the fire.
What sort of losses have resulted from the fire? The fire had not killed or injured any residents of the area, or resulted in any firefighter casualties as of early Thursday morning. More than 800 firefighters were fighting the flames, the Ventura County Fire Department said Thursday. More continued to pour into the area as a result of mutual assistance programs with other fire departments. Numerous buildings are in the area, and Ventura County said it would begin conducting damage assessments on Friday.
