Kentucky police crushing confiscated $100K street racer

The Louisville Metro Police Department on Wednesday morning planned to crush a confiscated 2021 Hellcat Durango as a demonstration against illegal street racing and street takeovers. The car was filled with stolen parts, according to a post shared by the police department. Its value was estimated at $100,000, according to local news.

The police department on Tuesday shared photos of the shiny green SUV and the industrial crusher that would be used to flatten it. City mayor Craig Greenberg planned to push the button to start the crushing, according to WDRB-TV in Kentucky. He said the car would be destroyed, rather than sold, because it was not street legal. Louisville authorities seized more street racing vehicles last year than any year before, he said, according to local news.

A Louisville police department post from last year said officers seized 14 cars from three street racing locations in one weekend. Thousands of people were involved, the department said.
