Kentucky Gov. Andy Beshear wins reelection, Democrats win Virginia

Kentucky’s Democratic incumbent Andy Beshear was projected to win his second term as governor on Tuesday night with roughly 53 percent of the vote. He beat out the state’s Republican Attorney General Daniel Cameron. Beshear managed to stay in the governor’s office even though more than 60 percent of his state’s voters sided with former President Donald Trump when he ran for reelection in 2020.

What happened in Virginia? Democrats retained control of the Virginia state Senate on Tuesday night and gained a majority of the state’s House of Delegates. Republican Gov. Glenn Youngkin had hoped to establish Republican majorities in both chambers to pass pro-life legislation protecting unborn babies after 15 weeks of pregnancy.
