Kennedy campaign weighs joining forces with Trump
Nicole Shanahan, Robert F. Kennedy Jr.’s running mate, on Tuesday said their campaign is considering dropping its bid for the presidency. The campaign doesn’t want to draw voters away from former President Donald Trump and make it easier for Vice President Kamala Harris to win, Shanahan said on Impact Theory, a podcast. A Marquette University Law School poll found earlier this month that Republican-leaning independents favored Kennedy more than Democratic-leaning independents. Kennedy has not directly commented on the possibility of endorsing Trump but he has been critical of the Democratic Party. He is willing to talk with leaders of any political party to further his goals, he said on social media.
What else did Shanahan say? She added that the campaign could remain in the race, providing a third-party alternative. A Washington Post/ABC News/Ipsos poll conducted this month found that five percent of respondents supported Kennedy, compared to 44 percent for Trump and 47 percent for Harris.
How did Trump respond? The former president told CNN on Tuesday that while he did not know Kennedy was considering leaving the campaign, he would consider giving the independent candidate a role in his administration.
