Justice, Education departments launch Title IX task force

The Title IX Special Investigations Team will respond to the high volume of sex discrimination complaints within educational programs with a specific focus on women's sports, according to a Friday statement from the Department of Justice. Both the DOJ and the Department of Education will lead the joint task force to carry out President Donald Trump’s executive orders to protect women's sports and remove gender ideology. Protecting women’s sports is a high priority in the Justice Department, according to Attorney General Pam Bondi.

What exactly will the task force do? The team will allow prosecutors to use the full power of the law to remedy any threats to female spaces, Bondi said. Secretary of Education Linda McMahon described investigators and prosecutors in the Office of Civil Rights taking years to complete Title IX investigations. This task force will ensure quicker and more consistent investigations, she said. McMahon warned groups that allow men to compete in female sports and use their facilities that federal leaders will no longer allow women’s civil rights to be trampled.

The announcement came months after the Trump administration launched additional task forces investigating anti-Semitism on college campuses and the Hamas’ Oct. 7 attack on Israel.
