Justice Department searching Trump’s Twitter account

Court documents made public on Wednesday revealed that Justice Department Special Counsel Jack Smith obtained a search warrant for former President Donald Trump’s Twitter account back in January. A court also levied a $350,000 fine on the social media company, which now goes by the name X, for delays in providing the information requested to the department.

Why did the Justice Department need to search Trump’s Twitter? The court found probable cause to search the former president’s Twitter account for evidence of criminal activity, according to the court documents. A grand jury earlier this month indicted the former president for attempting to overturn the results of the 2020 presidential election. Trump has pleaded not guilty to the charges and has said the investigation against him is politically motivated.
