The Israeli Foreign Ministry on Monday said authorities had diverted a small ship toward an Israeli port after it attempted to reach Gaza. A dozen pro-Palestinian activists and journalists were aboard the craft operated by the Freedom Flotilla Coalition, which describes itself as a grassroots organization that opposes Israel’s blockade of the region. Swedish climate activist Greta Thunberg, European Parliament member Rima Hassan, and German activist Yasemin Acar were among the group on board the civilian ship called the Madleen. The boat left Sicily on June 1 bound for Gaza and was reportedly carrying a small amount of aid on board. Israeli officials said everyone on board was safe and would be sent back to their respective countries and the aid would be transferred to Gaza through humanitarian channels. Meanwhile, the activists posted what appeared to be prerecorded videos online claiming to have been kidnapped.

What else is happening with aid in Gaza? The United Nations over the weekend said the average daily food intake in Gaza fell below the levels needed to survive. Aid organizations have struggled to get food aid into the region amid Israeli blockades, threats from Hamas terrorists, and ongoing violence. Meanwhile, the U.S.- and Israeli-backed organization Gaza Humanitarian Foundation was criticized shortly after beginning operations to deliver aid outside of the U.N.'s distribution channels. The organization over the weekend claimed Hamas threatened to attack workers handing out supplies, according to The New York Times, a claim the terrorist group denied Monday.
