Investigation at Trump estate was obstructed, DOJ says
The Justice Department said late Tuesday night in a court filing that former President Donald Trump and his legal team obstructed the FBI’s investigation into whether Trump mishandled classified information. According to the document filed by the Justice Department, Trump’s legal team only handed over some of the classified documents at the Mar-a-Lago estate, saying that a “diligent search” had accounted for all documents. But then, according to the Justice Department, the FBI executed a search warrant on the estate and found over 100 more documents marked as classified.
Why was the filing submitted? The Justice Department submitted the filing as a public response to the former president’s request that a District Court appoint a special master to review the government’s case and documents. The department argued that a special master would impede its investigation and that the case does not involve any sort of circumstances that would warrant a special master.
