House Republicans formalize Biden impeachment inquiry

House Republicans passed the proposal 221-212 on Wednesday to formalize the impeachment inquiry into President Joe Biden that former House Speaker Kevin McCarthy, R-Calif., opened earlier this year. House Republicans allege that the president engaged in an influence-peddling scheme related to his family members’ business ventures.

What will this affect? Republican Congress members have previously said that formalizing the impeachment inquiry will upgrade the muscle of their subpoenas and increase the reach of their investigation.
