House panel concludes no Russia collusion

WASHINGTON—The House Intelligence Committee voted along party lines Thursday to publish the Republicans’ final report on the investigation into possible Russian interference in the 2016 U.S. presidential election and end the panel’s inquiry. The committee posted a seven-page declassified summary for the public and plans to share a redacted version of the full report next month. Republicans on the panel concluded no evidence suggests the Trump administration worked with Russia to influence in the 2016 election. “None of the interviewed witnesses provided evidence of collusion, coordination, or conspiracy between the Trump campaign and the Russian government,” the summary stated. Committee Chairman Rep. Devin Nunes, R-Calif., said in a statement the findings are based on more than 70 interviews and a review of more than 300,000 documents. President Donald Trump took to Twitter on Friday to promote the Republican’s conclusion. “FINDINGS: (1) No evidence provided of Collusion between Trump Campaign & Russia,” Trump tweeted. “(2) The Obama Administrations Post election response was insufficient. (3) [Former Director of National Intelligence James] Clapper provided inconsistent testimony on media contacts.” Special counsel Robert Mueller continues his independent investigation, and Democrats said they are working to keep the probe going. “The lack of a serious investigation by the GOP is an invitation to the Russians to do it again,” tweeted Rep. Adam Schiff of California, the committee’s ranking Democrat.
