House approves $2,000 direct stimulus payments


On the heels of an economic aid package that will send $600 direct checks to Americans, President Donald Trump kept pushing for a higher amount. On Monday night, the House approved his request for $2,000 individual checks, sending the bill to the Senate.

Will we ever see these checks? The bill’s reception in the Republican-controlled Senate is more uncertain. Republican leaders have suggested the party is divided over the higher individual checks, and GOP lawmakers’ resistance to higher spending was one of the disagreements that stalled the most recent package. The Senate is set to meet on Tuesday.
