Homeland Security secretary hospitalized for allergy issue

An ambulance on Tuesday evening transported Kristi Noem to the hospital, said Department of Homeland Security spokeswoman Tricia McLaughlin. Noem reportedly had an allergic reaction and received emergency medical care out of an abundance of caution, McLaughlin said. She was alert and recovering after the incident. Officials did not immediately say what caused the reaction.

What situations is Noem overseeing right now? DHS is responsible for overseeing immigration, disaster response, the Secret Service, and other aspects of domestic security. Since taking office, the 53-year-old former South Dakota governor has spearheaded President Donald Trump's plans to secure the country's borders and deport illegal immigrants. Amid recent antideportation protests in Los Angeles, Noem has reiterated her support for law enforcement officials and criticized California Gov. Gavin Newsom for failing to quell the violent demonstrations.
