Hezbollah militants among dozens dead after Israeli strike

A strike near the international airport in Aleppo, Syria, on Friday killed 36 Syrian troops and seven Hezbollah militants, according to a statement by the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights. Syrian regime forces reportedly tried to stop the Israeli missiles, but some still struck their target, striking what the rights group said was a missile warehouse of the Lebanon-based terrorist group Hezbollah. It’s the deadliest strike in Syria by Israel in the last three years, the rights group said.

What is the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights? The U.K.-based human rights group describes itself as a network of hundreds of human rights activists. It claims to constantly monitor military, humanitarian, and political developments in the area and provide accurate, honest, and credible information about events in the region.

What did Israel say about fighting Hezbollah? Israeli forces eliminated the deputy commander of Hezbollah’s missile unit, Ali Abdul Hassan Naim, on Friday, according to a statement by the Israel Defense Forces’ spokesman to the Arab media Avichay Adraee. That attack took place in the Bazouriyeh of Lebanon, however, Israel said.
