Harris receives majority of delegate support, DNC says

Most delegates for the Democratic National Convention have thrown their support behind Vice President Kamala Harris, the DNC said on Friday, and she is guaranteed the party’s nomination for president. Delegates can continue casting votes until Monday at 6 p.m., DNC Chairman Jaime Harrison said.

How quickly did Harris lock down the nomination? She won a majority of the delegates’ support just one day after virtual voting began, Harrison said. The Democratic National Committee will announce Harris as its new presidential candidate on Monday evening, the chairman said. It will also announce the state-by-state voting results.

What did Harris say about this? She issued a statement Friday afternoon saying she was honored to be the Democratic Party’s official candidate and promising to accept the nomination next week. She is also scheduled to announce her running mate next week.
