Former VP Harris hints at 2028 White House run
Kamala Harris told supporters on Friday that she may launch a second presidential campaign. The former vice president was speaking at the National Action Network’s 2026 convention when the crowd began chanting “run again.” The Rev. Al Sharpton then asked Harris directly whether she planned to run in 2028. “I might. I am thinking about it,” she said.
Harris continued by underscoring her years of service as the U.S. executive branch’s second-in-command and described spending countless hours in the Oval Office and the situation room. Harris knew what the presidency required and how it could be done best for the people, she said. The Rev. Sharpton’s National Action Network bills itself as a civil rights organization while advocating for police accountability and changes to the judicial system. It opposes voter identification laws.
Didn’t she already say she wasn’t going to run in her book? Harris shut down rumors that she planned to run for governor of California in her 2025 memoir, 107 Days. The former vice president has made seemingly contradictory remarks on future political campaigns. Harris told The Late Show with Stephen Colbert last year that she did not want to return to the political system. She appeared to change her tune several months later, during a BBC interview, saying she wasn’t done with politics.
