Giuliani subpoenaed in impeachment inquiry

House Democrats on Monday subpoenaed Rudy Giuliani, President Donald Trump’s personal lawyer, for documents related to his interactions with officials in Ukraine. The lawmakers, who have launched a presidential impeachment investigation, said Giuliani “acted as an agent of the president in a scheme to advance his personal political interests.”

What do they already know? Giuliani admitted he asked Ukraine about investigating former Vice President Joe Biden and his son Hunter Biden, who served on the board of a Ukrainian gas company. “I did it at the request of the State Department,” Giuliani said. “And I have all of the text messages to prove it. And I also have a thank you from them for doing a good job.” House Democrats want to see those text messages and all other relevant communications by Oct. 15. They also requested interviews with some U.S. diplomats. On Tuesday, Secretary of State Mike Pompeo accused Democrats of trying to “intimidate, bully, and treat improperly” State Department employees.
